- Wesley Set to Join AS Roma as Deal with Flamengo Finalized
Wesley is on his way to AS Roma. The right-back will join the Italian side once all paperwork is completed between Roma and Flamengo. Both clubs are exchanging the final documents this week.
The move comes after Roma pushed for a new signing in the right-back position. Wesley fits the profile Gasperini wanted, and the club has acted quickly to complete the operation.
Talks between the clubs have been ongoing since early July. Roma’s director Boto is leading the process. He is expected to authorize Wesley’s travel as soon as Flamengo confirm Emerson Royal’s signing.
The deal includes €5m in add-ons. These terms were agreed last week and remain unchanged. The full package has already been accepted by both clubs, pending final signatures.
Wesley has remained in Brazil during the final phase of talks. Flamengo are waiting for Emerson Royal to arrive before giving the green light. Once the agreement is signed on both sides, Wesley will fly to Italy to begin his medical tests.
AS Roma view Wesley as a long-term investment. The club have been scouting full-backs in the Brazilian league for months. After shortlisting options, they chose Wesley for his pace, work rate, and attacking support.
The 20-year-old played 35 matches for Flamengo last season. He showed consistency in both defensive and wide attacking roles. Roma believe his profile matches Serie A demands and fits Gasperini’s tactical system.
Flamengo have already prepared for his exit. Emerson Royal is expected to sign his contract in the coming days. His move from Tottenham was a key condition for the Wesley-Roma deal to progress.
Roma’s technical staff want Wesley available before their pre-season trip. The coaching team is planning to integrate him quickly into first-team training. He could be involved in friendly matches later this month.
The move shows Roma’s commitment to strengthening under Gasperini. The club have also targeted players in midfield and central defence this window.
Soccerpicks understands that Wesley’s contract will run until 2029. His salary will increase progressively across the deal. The Italian club will announce the transfer officially once all procedures are completed.
No further delays are expected. Roma will present Wesley as their new right-back shortly.
